Caterpillar Stays Green
October 18, 2010
As it marks its tenth straight year on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Caterpillar has once again been recognized as an environmental leader.
Launched in 1999, the index is named after an analysis of a company’s economic, environmental and social performance. It assesses issues like risk management, branding, climate strategy, labour practices and supply chain standards.
Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman says the company’s continued placement on the index speaks to the ongoing commitment to sustainable practices. “We believe it’s both the right thing to do and a real business opportunity,” he said. “Our customers are under increasing pressure to do more with less impact on the environment. It’s one of their greatest demands, and so it becomes one of ours.”
For Caterpillar, sustainable development means increasing efficiency and productivity with less impact on the environment. By providing products, services and solutions that use resources more efficiently, Caterpillar helps its customers reach the same goal.
