Caterpillar’s New Electric Drive Truck
October 26, 2010
Following in the footsteps of the Caterpillar D7E, Cat is now injecting eco-friendly technology into its mining equipment with the 795 AC.
A 345-ton truck with electric drive, the 795 AC is estimated to lower cost per ton by 3 to 5 percent over competitive electric drive trucks.
Not only is she economical, she’s also efficient. “The brake retarding curves, which measure how quickly a load can be carried downhill, are substantially better than what competitive units can achieve,” said Mark Vander Griend, director, mining sales and marketing.
Other advantages include a focus on operator safety through the new F-series cab, up-front walkways and service access for mechanics.
Finning employees had their first look at the truck last August, when it was delivered to Sparwood for a year-long field follow. The 795 AC is still in the development stage. More information will be posted in the months to come.
