Finning Blazes Safety Trail
September 26, 2011
Finning Canada implemented its wireless communications policy in 2007, banning employees and contractors from using cellphones or bluetooth technology while driving. It was a full three years before B.C. passed a distracted driving law. A similar law in Yukon came into effect in April of this year, while Alberta passed its own on September 1. In the Northwest Territories, distracted driving legislation comes into effect in January 2012.
Finning’s proactive safety measures were praised at a Distracted Driving Awareness event held at Richmond City Hall on September 22 as September 2011 was named Distracted Driving Prevention Month.
Finning’s own regional field safety officer Richard Driver and forestry products director Brian Mulvihill were on hand to support the initiative, a dual effort between WorkSafeBC and the Insurance Corporation of B.C. Richard and Brian are passionate about safety at work, and it’s clear they’re proud of our company. As Richard says, “employers have a responsibility to keep their employees safe, and Finning takes that responsibility seriously. It’s nice to be recognized for it.”
