Finning prepares for Caterpillar truck arrival
March 30, 2011
After months of waiting, the secret is out. The Cat CT660, Caterpillar’s first on-highway truck, was unveiled at Las Vegas’ ConExpo on March 20, and it’s now up to Finning to establish Western Canada’s Cat truck presence.
“We’ll initially introduce and manage sales locally via our three existing truck service locations,” notes on-highway truck manager Harold Denenfeld, referring to the dedicated truck shops located in Surrey, Edmonton and Calgary. “Over time, we will cover our full dealership territory to address the needs and expectations of our customers.”
The CT660 is Caterpillar’s first model in a full line of Class 8 vocational trucks. It comes complete with the Cat CX31 automatic transmission with Eaton manual and power shift options. Caterpillar’s initial truck product offering is with 11- and 13-litre engines in a set back axle configuration for vocational applications. In early 2012, Caterpillar will introduce a 15-litre engine option.
Finning’s order board will open early April with production starting in May and deliveries beginning July 2011. Harold emphasizes that Finning will still support our legacy TEPS business and continue to service Caterpillar truck engines while expanding to promote the vocational trucks.
