CAES – Computer Aided Earthmoving System

Caterpillar's Computer Aided Earthmoving System (CAES) is a tool that integrates planning and design operations to give you a real solution for reducing costs. CAES uses on-board computers, software, GPS, and data radios and receivers to replace the manpower-and time-intensive processes associated with conventional surveying.

CAES allows engineers to transmit planning designs wirelessly to the machine's on-board computer. The display shows the machine operator where the machine is relative to the design area, what the current surface is, and where the final design surface is to be. The operator uses this information to see where to cut and fill and by how much. The machine's progress is measured and recorded to update information for the operator. This same information is transmitted back to the engineering office for analysis and documentation. The result is improved communications and greater production accuracy, giving you a real solution for reducing planning and operating cost.

Features of CAES:

  • Integrates planning and production
  • Visually displays to operator location of ore boundaries and bench height for loading tools and cut & fill for track type tractors, scrapers and motor graders
  • Makes machine production data available to office and operator
  • Designs for office and machine application with complete site software suite
  • Utilizes high bandwidth radio system designed specifically for mining which can be utilized by CAES, Aquila Drills, VIMSwireless and surveyors

Benefits of CAES:

  • Reduced ore dilution
  • Improved recovery
  • Ability to re-engineer mining process
  • Better communication between pit and engineering
  • Significantly improve productivity
  • Ability to maximize the productivity of a system
  • Reduced O&O costs on haulage and auxiliary equipment
  • Ability to mark hazards on the fly
  • Better operator morale and performance
  • Faster bond release on reclaim areas
